Statpio vs ChatGPT Sites: Hosting for AI-Built Websites

Last updated:

ChatGPT Sites is OpenAI's builder and host for sites and apps you describe inside ChatGPT, included with paid ChatGPT plans. Statpio is a static-site host with a business layer built in (forms and a messages inbox, visitor statistics, a hosted blog, a client portal) that any AI assistant can publish to. Pick ChatGPT Sites if you are building a web app with a database or sign-in and want to stay inside ChatGPT. Pick Statpio if you want a business website on a flat price that works with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or no assistant at all, with your own domain and the forms and statistics a business needs.

Disclosure: this guide is published by Statpio, one of the tools compared. We link every competitor fact to its official source. Every ChatGPT Sites fact below was checked on OpenAI's own pages as of November 2026; Sites is a public beta, so its plan rules and limits can change.

What does each one cost?

ChatGPT Sites has no price of its own. It comes with ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise, and the work of building or editing a Site counts toward your Codex usage, so a long build session spends the same allowance as other agent work. Hosting is free until 31 December 2026; from 1 January 2027, OpenAI meters hosting, traffic and storage above the allowance your plan includes, and a custom domain costs 25 credits per domain per month on top of what you pay the registrar (Sites docs). The practical effect: the price of a site depends on how much you edit it and how much traffic it gets, and it is tied to keeping a paid ChatGPT plan.

Statpio prices the website, not the usage. Free Forever hosts one site at no cost, with the Statpio badge and no custom domain. Solo Pro costs $9 a month (or $89 a year) for 5 websites with 5 custom domains, GitHub push-to-deploy, the blog and the fuller statistics. Agency Pro ($99 a month) adds the client portal and 30 websites. Bandwidth is unmetered on every plan. If you build with an AI assistant, that assistant's subscription is separate, and a Claude Free account can connect Statpio.

How do the features compare?

Building with an AI assistant

On ChatGPT Sites the assistant is the product: in OpenAI's words, you "build, host, and share a website by describing it in ChatGPT or Codex", and you publish to the audience you choose when it looks right. Everything, from the first draft to the twentieth change, happens in that chat.

Statpio is a host that any assistant can drive. Its connector gives Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and the others 77 tools: create and publish a site (from one of six templates or from files the assistant writes to a design guide), change what is live file by file, check the site for broken links and missing titles, connect a domain and tell you the two DNS records, read the messages your forms received, pull any statistics report, write blog posts, and handle client change requests. The same site can also be published without an AI: upload a ZIP, connect a GitHub repository, or run npx statpio deploy ./dist. On ChatGPT, write actions through a custom connector are a feature of Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces as of November 2026; a Plus or Pro user can ask ChatGPT for the files and upload the ZIP, or build with Claude.

Forms and messages

A Site's form is something ChatGPT builds for you, backed by the Site's database; the responses live there, and you read them through what ChatGPT built. On Statpio, every ordinary <form method="POST"> on the site is captured as a message with spam protection and file uploads, without a backend, and the form builder makes contact, appointment-request or quote forms without code. Messages arrive in an inbox with search and CSV export, and in the connector as get_leads.

Analytics

OpenAI's docs describe a traffic and storage usage view per Site, arriving on 1 December 2026. Statpio's analytics are a product: a 3 KB cookieless script, and on every plan the sources, pages, countries, devices and visitors right now; on Solo Pro and up, UTM campaigns, goals, funnels, Core Web Vitals, missing pages, site search terms, journeys and peak hours, with 90 days of history. See how to read your visitors.

Blog, password, versions

Statpio adds a hosted blog at /blog on paid plans, with comments and feeds; a password on any site while a client reviews it; and a version for every publish, with one-click rollback. On ChatGPT Sites, a blog is something you would build as part of the Site, access control is the audience you publish to, and versions and deployments are managed in the project.

Agencies and clients

Sites lets you collaborate with editors and choose who a Site is published to. Statpio's Agency Pro gives each client a portal under your brand, with roles, change requests, branded reports and share links, on your own portal domain. See give your client a portal.

When is ChatGPT Sites the better choice?

  • You are building an app, not a website. Sign-in, a database, saved records, server code: Sites hosts them; Statpio hosts static files only and will not run a backend.
  • You live in ChatGPT and want nothing to set up. No connector, no account elsewhere, no DNS; the chat is the whole workflow.
  • Prototypes and internal tools for a workspace. Publishing to selected colleagues or to the workspace is built in, and your organisation already pays for ChatGPT Business or Enterprise.
  • You expect to iterate constantly with the agent. Editing a live Site is one message; on Statpio the assistant can do the same through the connector, but it is one more thing to connect.

How do I move a site from ChatGPT Sites to Statpio?

  1. Sign up for Statpio on Free Forever (free signup) and create a website; its address is your-name.onstatpio.com.
  2. Get the site's files. In the chat that built the Site, ask ChatGPT for the finished static files (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images) as a ZIP. A Site that depends on its database or server code cannot be moved as it is; the pages, texts and styles can.
  3. Publish. Drag the ZIP onto the website in the Statpio dashboard, or connect the connector in Claude or Cursor and say "publish these files to my-site". Run the check the connector offers, or open the site and click through it.
  4. Forms. Make each form a plain <form method="POST"> with no action and a name on every field; Statpio captures it. Or build the form in the dashboard's form builder and place it with one line.
  5. Your domain (Solo Pro and up). Add it in the dashboard and set the two CNAME records it shows at your registrar (connect your domain). Once Statpio shows the domain as active, remove it from the Site in ChatGPT.
  6. Review before showing it. Put a password on the site while you compare it with the original, then remove the password and share the address.

Which should you pick?

  • A local business, a freelancer, a portfolio, an event: Statpio. Start on Free Forever; Solo Pro when you want your own domain. Build it with the assistant you already use, or from a template.
  • An app with users and data: ChatGPT Sites, if you are on a paid ChatGPT plan and the app's stack fits what Sites runs.
  • An agency delivering sites to clients: Statpio Agency Pro: flat pricing per month, a portal under your brand, and clients who never need a ChatGPT account.
  • A Free or Go ChatGPT user, or anyone who builds with Claude or Cursor: Statpio, since Sites needs a paid ChatGPT plan and builds only inside ChatGPT.

If neither fits, the ChatGPT Sites alternatives page compares Lovable, Bolt, Netlify, Cloudflare Pages and Vercel on the same points.

Frequently asked questions

Is ChatGPT Sites free?

No. OpenAI's help article says Sites "is not available on Free or Go"; it comes with ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise. As of November 2026 OpenAI's docs say hosting is free through 31 December 2026 and that usage above your plan's allowance is metered from 1 January 2027, with a custom domain at 25 credits per domain per month. Statpio has a free plan, Free Forever, for one website on a free address.

Can ChatGPT publish a website to Statpio?

Yes, through the Statpio connector at https://statpio.com/mcp. As of November 2026, write actions through a custom connector are a feature of ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces; a Plus or Pro user can ask ChatGPT for the site's files and upload the ZIP in the Statpio dashboard, or build with Claude, Cursor or Claude Code, which all connect to Statpio.

Can I move a ChatGPT Site to Statpio?

The pages can move; the backend cannot. Ask ChatGPT for the finished static files as a ZIP and publish them on Statpio; make each form a plain POST form with named fields and Statpio captures it. Anything that depends on the Site's database, sign-in or server code has to be rebuilt another way, because Statpio hosts static files only.

Does Statpio run server code like ChatGPT Sites?

No. Statpio serves static files: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images and fonts. Forms, statistics, password protection, the blog and the client portal are provided by Statpio around the site, so a business website needs no server code. An app with a database or user accounts belongs on ChatGPT Sites or another app host.

Which custom-domain set-up is cheaper?

On ChatGPT Sites a custom domain costs 25 credits per domain per month on top of your plan, and registration is extra (OpenAI's Sites docs, November 2026). On Statpio, custom domains are included in the paid plans: 5 on Solo Pro and 30 on Agency Pro, with free SSL and no per-domain fee. Registration is separate on both.

Which one works with Claude or Cursor?

Statpio. ChatGPT Sites builds only inside ChatGPT and Codex. Statpio's connector works with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code, VS Code, Windsurf, Gemini CLI and any other app that supports MCP servers, and the templates, ZIP upload, GitHub and the command line work with no assistant at all.
